Now a day, Pakistan is in the natural catastrophic disaster. Disaster on this scale would be devastating for any country, but for Pakistan – a developing nation, chronically unstable due to fight against terrorism. The consequences may go well beyond those posed by the urgent need for humanitarian relief and for reconstruction in the longer term.
So far, approximately 2000-2500 people are believed to have died and million people have had their lives disrupted. UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs estimates that more than 14 million people have been affected by the floods, making this a greater catastrophe than the Kashmir earthquake in 2005, or the Haiti earthquake of earlier this year, each of which affected 3 million people, or the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, which affected 5 million. Around with over 160,000 square kilometers (1/5 of Pakistan) effected with this disaster.
People of Pakistan are fighting the battle against nature on its own but this can’t be fought without international help that’s why UN chief Ban Ki-moon has urged the world to urgently speed up aid but the international response was very slow. We fear we’re getting close to the start of seeing a second wave of death if not enough money comes through, due to water-borne diseases along with lack of clean water and food shortages.
Floods have submerged 17 million acres of Pakistan’s most fertile crop land, killed 200,000+ livestock and washed away massive amounts of grain. A major concern is that farmers will be unable to meet the fall deadline for planting new seeds in 2010, meaning a massive loss of food production in 2011, and potentially leading to long term food shortages. The agricultural damages are more than 2.9 billion dollars, according to recent estimates, and include over 700,000 acres of lost cotton crops, 200,000 acres of sugar cane and 200,000 acres of rice, in addition to the loss of over 500,000 tonnes of stocked wheat, 300,000 acres of animal fodder and the stored grain losses
This is the time to do something for the country. Our Agricultural and Industrial zone is almost demolished and if we don’t help those people regaining their lives back, we will ourself be in a very bad situation. The damage and the magnitude is too large for natural resources to cope with it … Pakistan needs your help.

Google has recently released its stats according which Pakistan has topped the list of searching pornographic matter through Google. The article was published and played up by FOX News in the wake of tarnishing the image of the country. The channel did not bother to take the version of Pakistani authorities but they just highlighted the fact on the basis of statistical data.
The article not only refers to stats but it highlights other things along with it. The writer on its own advised her reader to change the name of our country. The article also emphasize on the extremist elements existing in our country. This kind of journalism has always worked against Pakistan and such slanted act should always be played down.
There are loopholes in every society and system. Pakistani journalism has never raised fingers on corrupt elite in US or other western countries. Similarly, it is known that USA has the highest crime rate as well as rape cases. The Britain has the highest number of unmarried pregnant teenage girls. However, such horrendous acts which are far more evident in western societies were never played up in Asian particularly in Muslim media.
On the other hand, there are journalists working against Pakistan trying to dig stories which can distort the image of Pakistan, whereas, they hardly try to put up the lighter side of Pakistan. On western media, one can always find women in Burqa protesting against West but they don’t show the woman working in an office or holding key position in public sector. They like to inform the world about our corruption but they don’t really care about mentioning the story of that waiter who returned 10,000$ forgotten by the tourist.
I believe, FOX News article is against the ban on facebook.com by the Pakistani Court. Now, they are trying to start media war against the Pakistan and Pakistani Courts. So, some hard headed nutshells want us to change our name to whatever they suggested then they need to find a name for their country too because I don’t feel like suggesting anything. It’s always easy to blame and hard to self realization. Development and money does not solve all problems. So, let’s not interfere in each other’s affairs on personal vendetta. There are good things which need our attention too.

Last month, My National ID card was expired. One week before expiry, I went to NADRA, Pakistan office on Abbot Road, Lahore. There was long queue in front of Ticket window. I went to inquiry office to confirm the procedure. The person on the insuquiry was very rude and did not guide me properly.
There were different people, who said that the inquiry counter officer and Ticket window officer both are not asking people for complete papers. Due to this they have number of trips to collect complete document for ID Card.
So, due to some other works, I left the NADRA office at that time.
After that, I went to NADRA office on November 3, 2008. It was 6:20 PM when I was there. Again there was a queue of 30 people. I also joined that queue.
From 7:30 to 8:30 was official break for Dinner. So, till 7:30 only 10 people could take TOKEN for ID Card.
After finish the break, The person on the Ticket window came back on 8:35 PM. I was lucky person that My number came before the end time which is 10 PM. It was 9:30 PM when I got my TICKET for ID Card.
I have entered into hall, Where again I did wait for 15 minutes for my number.
There were number of issues. There is a Board on the building where the slogan is “Computerized Shankhti Card – Sahoolat Ke Sath“. While
- There is no sitting place
- There is no shelter to cover from sun and rain
- The staff has no NAME badges. Now, If I have complaint from any person, I can’t tell exact person name just because nobody tagged with name.
- Don’t know, Why the person on Ticket Window is working very slow. He only gave Tickets to almost 40 people in 2.5 hours
I think, NADRA should have separate window for quick process for the peoples who want to renew their cards.
Also there should be facilites, like chairs, water etc. And need to trained people to work quickly.
